Vampire Weekend 9/23/13

Saw Vamp Weekend 9/23 at the LC, they have been on my band bucket list for a long time.  This was the type of show I wished would never end.  It was outside so the sound wasn't as great, but the band stayed true to record sound.  I look forward to seeing them again, maybe at Bonnaroo this year?? (Fingers crossed!!!)

MET YOUNG THE GIANT THIS WEEKEND!

Talk about being at the "right place at the right time"  We were out Saturday with no big plans & decided to swing by Brother's Drake Meadery here in Columbus when we heard YTG was playing a private show.  We ended up meeting the band & getting to see the show.  Anthony has seen them a few times live, once at the Basement for $5 (he's a pretty big deal) and he always raved about them.  I was super impressed.  Sameer, the lead singer, has not only a killer & unique voice, but quite the stage presence.  I overheard at least two straight men talking about wanting making out with him, lol.  I had a blast meeting the band, they were all really chill, nice guys.

They just announced their next tour & their new album comes out in January!

MGMT- Meh

Saw MGMT last Thursday at the LC Pavilion.  I've really love MGMT's old stuff, ie: Kids, Electric Feel, Time to Pretend, but their new stuff is just not my style.  It's sort of creepy, futuristic sounding. I also felt like the energy wasn't there for this show, but was glad I got to hear my favorite of their songs live.  Warning: their backdrop is freaaaaky.

Old Lucius video! Their album just dropped!

I am starting to go through my old videos from previous concerts.  This is Lucius the first time I ever saw them.  They opened for Milo Greene @ Johnny Brendas in Philly 10/16/2012.  They blew me away, these two ladies have incredible voices and they were dressed in pretty awesome, '50s style matching outfits.   Their sound is like nothing I have ever heard.  We saw them again this year at Bonnaroo & they killed it.  I cannot wait until I get to see them again.  Their new album is full of good hits from Hey Doreen to Turn it Around.  Check it out below!

Capital Cities

Capital Cities 6/25 @ A&R music bar. By far the best show I have seen all year.I had the opportunity to see this new and upcoming band at Bonnaroo earlier in the month only two days after their album, Title Wave of Mystery, dropped. That show was incredible and so I was very much looking forward to seeing them in a more intimate setting. This show was originally scheduled at the Basement but quickly sold out, so they moved the show upstairs and released a hundred or so additional tickets. I was lucky enough to score a couple of tickets and so glad I did. This was one of those shows where it is impossible to drink a beer without some sweaty dancing fool spilling it all down the front of your shirt, so we did the only logical thing and became those sweaty dancing fools. By the end of the show, and at the bands request, most everyone in the place was half naked and helicoptering their shirts over their heads. Highlights of the evening included the band leading the crowd in the 'Capital Cities Shuffle', an amazing cover of Pink Floyd's Time, and extended encore version of their hit song Safe and Sound, and getting to meet the band afterwards. Very cool group of guys and deserving of the success they have enjoyed. These guys are going to be selling out the big venues soon. Highly recommended.

Pretty Lights

Pretty Lights 11/6 at LC Pavilion. This was a sold out show and I could not believe how many people came out to party on a Wednesday. Needless to say for an EDM show, there was more glowsticks than common sense and more club kids than hipsters at a farmers market. This was the 3rd Pretty Lights show I have been to in 2013, and while not his best set, this was memorable for the fact that its the1st time I have seen him accompanied with a live band. Live brass really added to the overall vibe. Overall worth the Thursday morning hangover.

Holy Ghost - Dance Party!!!

Here is a clip from Holy Ghost concert, last night at A&R bar.  They had the crowd pumped up & dancing!  There were maybe 6 people at the bar for the opening act (DJ Moxie & Midnight Magic), but the crowd grew once Holy Ghost came on, but we were still able to get up close.  I really like a few of their songs, but my boyfriend & his friend loved the whole show.  It was super high energy &  soooo loud, my ears are still ringing.  If you have never heard of them I would describe them as electronic pop, definitely awesome stuff to work out to.  I say check em up if you're in the mood for a dance party, alas, I would not recommend seeing the opening bands.

Digging the new Head & The Heart Song- Shake

Just saw Grouplove!

What a fun & high energy show!  I love the full body leopard print leotard the lead singer wore.  She is one hot mama!  Here are a few videos:

I recommend checking these guys out!

MS MR

Saw this band last night for $5 at Newport Music Hall in Columbus.  The opening band Wildcat! Wildcat! Was a little weird, I felt like there were a cross between Milo Greene & Phoenix, but they only played a few songs before MS MR came on.

I love their hit song "Hurricane" http://open.spotify.com/track/35aNHKBZWXXbL9KQK7O5Nk

I didn't love their other stuff, I think they really need a trumpet!  The lead vocalist Lizzy has some serious pipes on her though! What a gorgeous voice.  And I was kind of digging her high waisted leather pants, sorry Anthony! (Haha my boyfriend is not a fan).

I would recommend checking out MS MR, but not Wildcat! Wildcat!

This was my first time at Newport & it was such a pretty venue, plus the sound was awesome.

Gentlemen of the Road Night One

It's been almost a year since I've blogged.  I was finishing up grad school & let this fall on the back burner, but I was still able to a bunch of shows. I want to start up again so I can track the concerts
I attend & maybe help you decide whether a certain show is worth going to.

At this very moment, I'm sitting at my campsite at the Gentlemen of the Road show.  Mumford & Sons set up this show to be like a traveling circus, going from random town to town.  This weekend they are in Troy, OH.  The show is at the town's high school football stadium (which is huge) and the camping is in surrounding fields.  We're set up under a railroad track where a train seems to come by (& blow it's horn) every hour.  That didn't make for the best nights sleep, but it is still pretty cool.  There's Radiohead playing over the loudspeakers as campers meander toward the port a potties, free showers, & into town for breakfast.  So far this festival is turning out to be one of the most laid back & well orchestrated shows I have been to.

Last night we arrived & had to carry our stuff from the parking lot to the campgrounds so we kept the bare minimum & left a lot behind in the car.  We were able to hear Half Moon Run from our tents & they had a good sound but were on the mellow side.  I couldn't really hear Willy Mason, but he seemed mellow as well.  Phosphorescent killed it.  They're hard to describe, but I would say they're trippy, hippy, almost 70s genre.  Then Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros ended the night strong.  If you see them be prepared for a long jam sesh. I love how Edward Sharpe has like 15 people in their band.

We wandered into town & there were so many options for food & it was all delicious!  I'm pumped for Mumford tonight!
