Made In America 2012

Had a great time on Saturday at the Made in America Music Fest! Was missing my usual concert ladies but paired up with C and was able to get pretty close to the stages for Maybach, Passion Pit, Janelle Monae and Skrillex. Saw a little bit of Calvin Harris and heard Miike Snow from afar. Navigating the crowds made it difficult to see all of the shows I wanted, so we ended up seeing those grouped at the same stages or at least close to each other.

Memory was a little foggy throughout the day... Boozing started early and C was able to sneak some of her usual in. No cell service, so we never met up with the rest of our crew who was heading in later in the day but C and I managed to have an awesome time and see just about everything we wanted to.

My night peaked with an amazing performance by Jay Z who (followed by an Obama PSA on voting) performed some of my old favorites like 99 Problems, Dirt of Your Shoulder, and Big Pimpin. C and I danced our asses off and my legs are still sore haha He then pulled some friends on stage- Kanye, Common, Freeway,  and Memphis Bleek- and did some of the newer songs. Was hoping for an appearance from Beyonce (he teased us by doing Bonnie and Clyde) but she never showed. The night ended with the whole group doing "N in Paris" and an awesome firework display.

All in all, a great mix of acts. Decent facilities, great sound. A little bit more crowded than I'm used to but definitely a great festival. I'm hoping they try this venue again soon with some indie-rock bands.

I'm usually pretty good about catching a few good pics or videos from a show but since I started drinking at 1 and got white girl wasted,  when I went to see what I had the next morning, the only things I found were this short Skrillex clip and (oddly enough) the entire fireworks display haha (I blame C's party favors for the latter)

Oh and have I mentioned.. BRUCE. TONIGHT. CBP. HOLY. SHIZ.  Haha sooo excited to see the Boss for the first time ever. I'll be the only one from Jersey in my group so for one night I'm going to celebrate my NJ roots and they can't say anything bad about it. :)

I Like Mine Still Growing

We Wish We Were That Cool

The Givers concert (7/29/12) was INCREDIBLE! By far one of the best shows I have ever seen.  I had been listening to them nonstop on Spotify and for some reason thought it would be a slower show.  I was so very very wrong.  They have this really cool creole-style and they just ROCK out.  Their songs are on the shorter side on their record, but live, they play on and on and their sets just melt together beautifully.  I would see them play again and again.  The drummer, Tiffany, seems like the COOLEST chick and made us wish we were that cool and could play drums.  In this video her hair is going nuts as she plays.

Union Transfer, where they played, is my favorite venue in Philly and now Electric Factory is my second.  We saw Lumineers and Old Crow Medicine Show played last night and I am still pumped up.  I'll post some videos this week.  For now, we're on show hiatus until 9/8 when Imagine Dragons & AWOLNATION play for free at the Piazza.

Living On Love

I didn't expect to really like Family of the Year the opening band for Milo Greene.  I had listened to them a little bit on Spotify before the show, but they ended up sounding awesome live.  The same thing happened to me with Delta Spirit, who ended up being AMAZING live.  Family of the Year had a similar sound to Milo Greene indie-rock and I think they also have 4 dudes and one chick.  The drummer and frontman were brothers from Boston originally so that was awesome.  We met and talked to the female vocalist, Christina, she was super cool and laid back... I think she said she was from Orange County.  I say check em out, their first album Songbook, is a little more psych-rock, this a video of their last song of the night:

Onto Milo... I scored a sweet poster from the Middle East, but since I was too chicken to ask,  Liz asked all the band members for their signatures.  Im glad she did because I ended up meeting and getting to talk to most of the band.  I was was pretty tipsy and I'm sure babbling because I was so nervous to meet them!  Marlana is the female vocalist and super sweet.  We talked to her for awhile and she shared that she was exhausted.  I never would have been able to tell by the performance she had just put on.  I guess they were on their way to NH and then Montreal by van.  They had just come from NY where they had to stay up for 36 hours straight to play on Letterman.  Crazy lifestyle.  I made sure to tell the whole band I would see them in Philly, I was so proud of myself, lol.  I'm back in Philly and going to to see The Givers tonight.  I'll post about the show later this week.

Sweet Poster

I got the set list... such a groupie

Milo Greene!

Back to my home, Beantown tonight with one of my oldest friends, Liz for a Milo Greene concert.  It’s been years since I’ve seen a show in Boston, when I lived here my passion for music had yet to fully develop.  Milo Greene is playing at a The Middle East in Cambridge and they surprisingly sold out!  Im excited to check out a new venue.  This is Milo Greene’s first tour and their first album just came out last week.  I heard about them through a friend, Justin, who had seen them open for The Civil Wars in Philly last year.   He gave me their EP and I fell in love with them immediately. I was able to see them when I was at South by Southwest in Austin this March at a bar in the middle of the day, but it was almost impossible to hear because another band was playing right next door.  I’m hoping they are as good live as they are on record.  I’ll let you know tomorrow how the show is!
